Mission

Digital Frontier Alliance was incorporated as a nonprofit organization by the State of Michigan on November 3, 2025 with the goal of advancing civil society and democratic values in digital environments through education, advocacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

As the organization grows, we aim to provide services such as advocacy, information sharing, workshop presentations, and supports for victims of digital harm.

A Note from the Founder

Thank you for visiting Digital Frontier Alliance's website!

I started the organization in 2025 after realizing that much of the growing online incivility - and even online scams - happen because people tend to think of the virtual and digital spaces as places that are separate from who we are in real life.

I understand that digital spaces can provide meaningful ways to explore and escape at times. However, it also presents a gray area where people who are responsible for causing harm are able to distance themselves from the consequences and impacts of their actions.

Currently, we are a fledgling organization, but this is only the beginning. At its core, Digital Frontier Alliance will be a way to bring community members and experts together to find solutions for strengthening our civic space and digital life, as technology continues to evolve. The organization will be project-based to be responsive and flexible as new needs appear. We will invite people to connect, share ideas, and work together to strengthen online communities and privacy protections. The vision statement is a work-in-progress, because it is meant to be created with partners and community members who are invested in this work.

My background is in public policy, analysis, and nonprofit management, primarily in the area of health and human services. I'm not an expert in privacy rights or technology, and I don't claim to be. Most of us aren't. However, we all have a stake in creating healthy standards and expectations for our shared digital community.

I drew on my professional and personal background to launch Digital Frontier Alliance's inaugural project - My Data. My Dignity. My VoiceAs an ally of the people in my life who have received public behavioral healthcare, I intend this roadmap to be a spark to facilitate further conversation and participation. People receiving services are the real powerhouse in terms of advocacy, and this initiative respects the tradition of "Nothing about us without us."

Our virtual and digital spaces are also shared civic spaces where we belong together. Please check back for updates as the organization and the My Data. My Dignity. My Voice. initiative continue to grow. In the meantime, start exploring the project's Advocacy Toolkit and feel free feedback through the Contact Form that follows.

Sincerely,

Frances Carley, Founder
